SOFIA FORUM FOR THE WESTERN BALKANS:

“Time to rebuild trust”

 

MRF / Renew Europe MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk is organizing the SOFIA FORUM FOR THE WESTERN BALKANS, in partnership with the Liberal Integration Foundation and the European Liberal Forum. The event took place in a hybrid format in Sofia on December 6, 2021, in strict compliance with anti-epidemic measures.

The forum was entitled “Time to Rebuild Trust”. Key issues on the Western Balkans and details of the region’s EU accession talks were discussed.

According to Ilhan Kyuchyuk, the new government in Bulgaria has the opportunity to restart the constructive dialogue, because the integration of the Western Balkans will be a success for the region, for the EU, but also for our country. The enlargement process is a strategic goal that unites the whole region and the EU, and support for reforms in the region must continue, because the EU and its values ​​remain the greatest unifying factor.

EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhei reaffirmed the EC’s desire to speed up negotiations, take into account reforms and progress in the countries so that negotiations can officially begin.

The forum was attended by Daniel Kadik, Executive Director of the European Liberal Forum, Solomon Passy, ​​President of the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, Prof. Vlado Buckovski, Special Representative of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria and experts in various fields of foreign policy.
